2018 Poster Competition at UMD

  • Poster Competition in ALL areas of optics and photonics
  • Graduate and undergraduate students in Baltimore-DC-Northern VA
  • $300 first place cash prize!  $200 2nd place, and $100 3rd place!
  • All research presented within the past year welcome!

We also invite professionals from the area to attend and have them judge the posters and so serves as a good way for both students and professionals to interact and network.  This will be our 8th year running this event.

Time and Location

The 2018 Poster Competition will take place on Thursday April 20th 12-6PM in the Kim Engineering Building Atrium at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.

Please come between 12-12:45 PM to set up your poster. Our featured speaker will be at 1PM.


Registration is FREE!  The deadline to register is April 16th.  There is still time to sign up!

Directions and Parking information

  • Take the Capital Beltway (I-495) to College Park (Rt.1) exit 25 
  • Go about two and a half miles south and turn right at the entrance to the University of Maryland campus onto Campus Drive
  • Once inside, take your first right. The Jeong H. Kim Building will be on your left just after crossing Stadium Drive.  Be careful not to park in non-pay lots as they carry $75 fines for unauthorized use. Check the parking signs to be sure you are in the right parking lot.
  • Pay parking is available in the Regents Drive Parking Garage pay parking lot (at the corner of Regents and Stadium Drive) and in the parking lot on the left before the Kim Building. Parking is $3. per hour. After 4:00 PM, most lots are not enforced and there is plenty of free parking.
